Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) play a large part in modern warfare nowadays and also in video games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare. I always thought of them to be the size of a larger remote control (RC) airplane, at most being about 6 feet long. Looks like I was wrong, they are huge! (Insert "That's what she said" joke here).

This a picture of NASA's UAV drone that they are using to fly into hurricanes/tropical storms (most recently Hurricane Earl) to gather more real time data on storm systems for scientists. So cool! More on NASA's UAV drone HERE.

Inception

Went to see this on Monday and it was everything (and more) that I expected. The script was awesome, the plot was very complex, the special effects were very decent and the acting was fantastic. This movie and its complexity is actually making me want to go back and see it multiple times to have a better grasp on the story. There were many things to follow and pick up through the movie so going back for multiple viewings is almost a must! Here's a little diagram I found on the net recently to help you keep track of the levels (warning SPOILER). However I believe whoever made it used one too many levels and shouldn't have described reality as level one. But it does its purpose in making Inception a bit clearer.

P.S. I totally recommend this movie. I haven't seen something this great in a long time! Not since the likes of The Matrix or Memento!

Ultimate Frisbee

My Ultimate 2010 summer season started yesterday! It was awesome! Loved every minute of it, well maybe not the running part. I love the sport even though I don't know much about it or play it well. I just love the strategy and athleticism involved in playing it. We lost both our games last night, but I blame that on us not having chemistry and just running all over the place. After a few weeks I think we should be good. Hopefully my ankles and toes hold out long enough so I can enjoy a full season of it.

Chicken Vesuvio

So I tried this recipe last night that I saw Giada de Laurentiis do on one of her cooking shows awhile back ago. It turned out quite well and inspired me to try it again next time with a few adjustments. And don't worry about having leftovers because it is even better the second time around.

Prep Time:15 min

Cook Time:1 hr 0 min
Level: Intermediate
Serves: 4 servings

Ingredients

3 tablespoons olive oil
4 chicken thighs with skin and bones
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 pounds small red-skinned potatoes, halved
4 large garlic cloves, minced
3/4 cup dry white wine
3/4 cup chicken broth
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried thyme
8 ounces frozen artichoke hearts or 1 cup frozen lima beans, thawed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

Heat the oil in large ovenproof pot over high heat. Sprinkle the chicken with salt and pepper. Working in 2 batches if necessary, cook the chicken in the pot until golden brown on all sides, about 10 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a bowl. Carefully add the potatoes to the same pot and cook until they are golden brown, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute. Add the wine and stir to scrape up any brown bits on the bottom of the pot. Add the broth, oregano, and thyme. Return the chicken to the pot. Stir to combine. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Cover and bake in the oven until the chicken is cooked through, about 20 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a platter. Arrange the potatoes around chicken. Add the artichoke hearts to the sauce in the pot. Cover and simmer over high heat until the artichokes are tender, stirring often, about 4 minutes. Turn heat to low. Stir in the butter. Pour the sauce over chicken and potatoes, and serve.

Notes
I used a bit too much olive oil when searing the chicken thighs golden brown, so use much less next time. I didn't use the artichoke hearts or lima beans, instead I just did potatoes and onions. However I am thinking other veggies such as carrots and tomatoes would make this a great dish. Instead of using chicken broth I am think I can use tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. For the white whine I just used a Riesling that I had in the fridge, but any white wine would work. When serving you can either have the sauce on the side for people to apply on the quantity they want just in case the wine taste is too strong.

I have been eyeing one of these for quite some time, it is a Limited Edition 12-inch adjustable Sandtrooper figurine from Sideshow Collectibles. They were only released to Sideshow approved/licensed vendors. 3500 were made and sent out across the world to the vendors, who then marked the prices up. Usually something like this on the Sideshow Collectibles website goes from $80-$120 USD, but vendors around my area had them in the $200 range and up. Luckily I found this guy for $100 USD off of ebay! So Rad :D

P.S. I am thinking of converting my existing Stormtroopers costume into a Sandtrooper one with DIY help from this site http://tk409.com/tk409.html. VARY VARY COOL :D

Team Japan: Worldcup 2010

Japan made it into the final 16 very convincingly this year in the tournament but was ousted from the final 8 by Paraguay in a very tight defensive game. Nothing could be decided in 120 minutes (0-0) so it went into penalty shoot-outs where both sides were scoring and the keepers weren't keeping anything out. The turning point was when Japanese defender Komano went up for the shot. Komano placed the ball down and was going high for his shot but kicked the ball too hard and it hit the crossbar and out. This proved to be the game decider and the end of Team Japans run in Worldcup 2010. It's too bad. I really wanted to see Japan and also an Asian team make it into the finals. Hopefully it happens in my lifetime. Now I don't know who to cheer for.

I forgot to post about this when it did happen (March 30, 2010) but after a gruelling round of playoffs we became the NCHL EIII division Champions for Fall/Winter 09-10!

Our first playoff game was against Out of position which was an easy win and lead us to the semi-finals against Scared Hitless. Against Scared HItless we were winning convincingly throughout most of the game until the last few minutes where we gave up a few goals and barely scraped through. I believe it was in this game that I nutted the guy after he slew footed me and he wasn't wearing a cup. He went down lack a sack of potatoes as soon as I made contact with the tip of my stick to his sack (haha). After this huge win we then went on to a best of 3 final against the Ninja Squirrels. We managed to sweep them in 2 games. The first game was definitely a nail biter that went into overtime shootouts and we didn't win it until the 4th or 5th round (can't remember)! The 2nd game we won way more convincingly because they were super tired and we gave it our all.

That was probably the most I have given to any sport I have participated in (since TKD) and my body definitely paid for it. That second game my lower back was hurting, my IT band was killing and my ankles were shot from a fat guy falling on me but in the end it was definitely worth it.

It was really awesome that as a team we all bought into the systems that I implemented. Dumping and pumping, back checking, forechecking and d-zone. It was so awesome.

I definitely can't wait for the Fall/Winter 10-11 to start up, should be great fun.

Steam for Mac

Twisted my ankle!

The last time I twisted my ankle this badly was back in the summer of 2000 playing some outdoor basketball. 10 years after I managed to do it again, this time playing flag football. In that 10 year span both my ankles have suffered reoccuring injuries but never this bad. Looks like I will be out for 3 to 4 weeks (hopefully 3) and my workouts and sports will be sidelined for the time being. It sucks but nothing I can do now but rest it up and hope it heals fast.

Counting Calories: Update

So after a month and a little bit I am sitting just around 165lbs-167lbs depending on the time of day I weigh myself. I'm pretty happy with the results of losing weight by eating better. Now I think I might actually try for 160 or even 155! I haven't been 155 in over 15 years! But if I do get to 155lbs I'm pretty sure I will be able to see abs. Woohoo!

Garlic Butter Tilapia

I love this recipe. Tried it out a few weeks ago and couldn't stop licking my lips after I was done eating!

Tilapia is a great choice for a low carb diet or any healthy diet.
Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons butter
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
dash pepper
dash salt
pinch dried dillweed or parsley
dash paprika
4 tilapia fillets
Preparation:

In saucepan, combine butter, garlic, pepper, salt, dillweed, and paprika. Heat over low heat until butter is melted and starts simmering. Remove from heat. Brush a little of the butter mixture in the bottom of a shallow baking dish (line baking dish with foil, if desired) then place tilapia fillets on the buttered area. Brush top of each tilapia fillet with the seasoned butter mixture. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes, until tilapia flakes easily with a fork.
Serves 2.

Notes:
-Added hot pepper flakes to it for a spicy kick.
-Instead of just brushing the sauce on the filets and then cooking I poured the entire sauce over the filets and baked (Do this if you aren't really worried about calories, use brushing method if you are)
-takes about 10-12 minutes per inch of fish to cook in the oven.

Taking the next step: Counting Calories

From a few posts before this one you can see that I am big into working out now, specifically weight lifting. I still do 3 days a week of weight training when possible and play hockey once a week (and soon will be starting up Flag football with hockey too). The weight training has been steadily replacing my fat with muscle and my hockey is a great cardiovascular workout that incorporates short intense intervals (1-2min) and a few mins of rest. However since my drop down to 170lbs I have not gotten any lower and it is definitely due to my daily diet.

With school, work, workouts and more school I found myself very busy and extremely lazy to make that effort to find/make something healthy to eat. My quickest and easiest solution was always to go pick up some fast food. That would be McDonald's, Wendy's, Jimmy's (Donairs), Chicken on the Way (Fried Chicken) or a poutine. The only good thing about this was that it kept me at around 2800 calories per day and kept me at a consistent weight of 170 for the last 7 to 8 months.

Now with school wrapping up and all I have is finals left I feel like I can lean up some more and get this body looking SEXY! So I went online and used a few Calorie counters to help me figure out what I need to start my calorie counting. I inputed my height, age and weight and my goal weight of 165lbs. The numbers calculated for me were:

Without Exercise
-2523.8 calories per day to maintain my current weight without exercise
-2487.6 calories per day to reach my goal slowly without exercise
-2023.8 calories per day without exercise to lose one pound per week
-3023.8 calories per day to gain one pound per week

With Exercise
-2760 calories per day with 30 min exercise per day
-3060.7 calories per day with 60 min exercise per day

Macronutrients
50% of my calories should come from carbohydrates
30% of my calories should come from fats
20% of my calories should come from protein

1g of protein = 4 calories
1g of fat = 9 calories
1g of carbohydrates = 4 calories

so to maintain my weight of 170lbs I must eat:
-315.5 g of carbohydrates
-83.3g of fat
-126.2g of protein per day
total calories consumed=2523.8

to get to 165lbs I must eat:
-311g of carbohydrates
-82.1g of fat
-124.4g of protein
total calories consumed=2487.6

With those numbers I am going to try and hit around 1800 to 2000 calories per day and still do 3 days of weight training with 2 days of sports (flag football and hockey). I might start supplementing that with some treadmill action once to two times a week (depending on how busy I am). From all this let's see firstly if I can stick to counting calories (something I have NEVER done) and secondly see my results within a month from now!

The hardest things to over come with this new change in eating is definitely not cheating and eating fast food. Basically I have to cut it out, and if I do eat it, I should only eat it once a week maximum. The other hardest thing will to be cut down on yummy intake of rice during supper and to make sure that I eat a healthy filling low calorie breakfast and lunch as well.

Sutter Cup Champions 2010!!!

CBHA Minor Midget AAA Rangers are 2010 Sutter Cup Champions!!! I got close with the Midget A Bruins back in 08 (second place) but we finally did it this year. The 5 game tournament started off shaky with us falling behind to the Blazers in the first period but we managed to win that game. The next 2 games vs Red Deer and the Royals were also iffy but we still won. It all started melding together when we had to face the AC Avalanche in the semi-finals. Down 3 goals in the first period the Rangers battled back scoring 6 unanswered goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods to a convincing 6-3 win! Our biggest challenge was next, The Lethbridge Hurricanes. They were the regular season league leaders, their first line which consisted of two twin scored 180 points in total during 30 regular season games (amongst 3 line mates)! We only played them once but lost 9-1 . So we had a tough game ahead of us if we wanted that gold medal. The game turned out really well, our coaches were smarter and out coached the other team's coaches. The other team only had one line and would double/triple shifted them for most of the 1st and 2nd period and eventually they had no more steam. The game was back and forth with them always in the lead and us tying it up. Eventually when all was said and done we won 5-3 with pure hard work. Our goalie Emmet Oh stood on his head and had 51 saves. The MVP of the tournament and total stand out star of our team (totally unexpected) was Christian Nypower (Nypes)!

This was one of the most exciting things I have been privileged to take part in and I am so proud of everyone who contributed to the success of the CBHA Rangers this year! It was too bad that we got swept 3 straight in Provincials, but at least we won the Sutter Cup!

So I started working out in May 2009 with the Fukami brothers (and now with Xtian) and I have some results to report!

I originally started at 182lbs, I'm 5'7' with a 32 inch waste.

My diet was crap. Ate barely any fruit and drank a ton of Pop. I skipped out on breakfast a lot and always ate late late at night.

I started working out (doing cardio, lifting weights) back in May and doing it till now and I have lost 13lbs and probably about 5lbs of muscle mass since. I am now sitting at 169lbs. I have never weight trained in my life, have only done cardio.

This is what I did and still am doing:

Cut out pop completely and just drink water
I make sure not to eat late at night and make sure I have a health breakfast and eat on time (never skip meals).

May 2009
-I started with Cardio by doing a bootcamp twice a week at 6AM for an hour. This bootcamp lasted for 16 weeks (4 months).
-I started working out with weights 3 times a week. Each workout was comprised of squats, bench, biceps, triceps, shoulders and abs. This was more to get my joints and muscles used to lifting and training with proper technique.
-I was also playing flag football once a week and had Ice hockey once a week.

June 2009
-I was into my second month of Bootcamp by now and hated waking up at 5AM but I still dragged myself out of bed.
-After 4 weeks at 3 times a week I changed my workout. I did 4 times a week, but each day focused on a different group of muscles. I also superset my workouts (I'll post what my routine consists at the bottom of this post). Wed = Chest & Triceps, Friday = Legs, Sat.=Shoulders, Sun=Back & Biceps. Basically killed the specific muscle group on that day and then let it rest for a week.
-Ab workouts 4 times a week. I also superset these. And would do on average 8 different exercises.
-I was still playing hockey and flag football once a week

July 2009
-I was into my third month of Bootcamp, still hated it but still went twice a week starting at 6AM
-Continued my new weight training of 4 times a week. This included doing abs 4 times a week
-Continued to play hockey and flag football and now added Ultimate to the list! Ultimate is a great cardio game.

Aug 2009
-Last month of bootcamp. I was so excited
-Continued my weight training 4 times a week with abs 4 times a week
-Continued to play hockey, flag football and Ultimate
-At the end of this month I ended up injuring my right toe pretty badly by getting turf toe (toe sprain) from all the running in cleats.

Sept 2009
-No more bootcamp
-Had to cut out a few exercises that involved standing on my foot. So no more leg days. Workout was now only 3 times a week with 3 times of abs.
-No sports due to injury

In September I also decided to re-weigh myself and I had hit 168lbs! My arms were bigger, my legs were more toned, lost 2 inches in my waist, and my chest felt more compact!

Oct 2009
-Restarted my weight training with Xtian this time
-Restarted doing my basic weight training of one exercise to get joints and muscles used to lifting and getting proper technique (exact same thing I did in May 09). Did this 3 times a week. Did abs 3 times a week doing 6 exercises.
-Play hockey once a week

Nov 2009
-Back to hypertrophy workout with supersets 4 times a week (W,F, Sat, Sun), with Abs 4 times a week.
-playing hockey still

Dec 2009
-Same as Nov

So here is my hypertrophy superset workouts

Wed = Chesticles and Triceps
Bench press superset (SS) with dumbbell press
Incline press SS with inclined dumbbell flys
decline press SS with push ups till failure
tricep cable press downs SS with bench dips (using a bench for hands and a fitness ball for resting feet on)

Friday = Legs
-Squats SS with Speed half squats (do as many as you can in 30 seconds)
-1 leg lunges (do both legs can hold weights) SS with speed lunges for 30 seconds
-Straight leg dead lifts SS with Hamstring ball curls

Saturday = Shoulders
-military dumbbell press SS with lateral raises
-Barbell shrugs SS with rear deltoid flys
-front dumbbell raises

Sunday = Back & Biceps
-Pulley pulldown SS with Wide grip pull ups (do till failure)
-Bent over barbell rows SS with seated cable rows
-Bicep curls with dumbbells SS with two handed cable curls

*I start the workouts and do it for about 2-3 weeks starting at 8 reps and 2 sets for each exercise (that doesn't have a time limit or that goes to failure)
*I then push it to 8 reps at 3 sets for 2 weeks
*then push it to 10 reps at 3 sets for 2-3 weeks
*then push it to 12 reps at 3 sets for 2-3 weeks (haven't gotten this high yet, but it will be insane when I do!)

After my exams are over I will try to get in 1 hour of biking twice a week to cut fat and increase my cardio.

My STinky

The Accord is gone. Sold it to my girlfriends brother. Have had the Impreza WRX STi since late January of 2009. I definitely miss driving an auto at times, but the STi does have it perks (AWD, 4 doors, bigger boot, and more power).

Since then I have added a few things to it:

-Replaced the god awful "premium" factory stereo that sounded like a bad AM radio with a premium Focal System
-Bronze Advan RS rims for the summer and use the factory BBS for winter
-Toyo Garret XS Winter tyres
-Escort 9500 CI radar/laser shifter system (front/back)
-Rally Armor Mudflaps
-Window deflectors

In the next couple years I do want to get a new downpipe with exhaust, possible headers, CAI and a Cobb Engine Management System to push out a few more horses/torque. I've been researching lately on downpipe and exhaust and it is just so hard to decide on since everyone seems to be split on what brand to go with (Invidia, Perrin, Cobb, etc.). So far I am leaning towards going all Perrin. But I will be patient and do my full homework before diving in to squeeze more power out of her. For now I'll settle with the 305hp/300tq that she offers.

For handling, I'm not too worried about it at the time, but if I do go for a power upgrade I would upgrade the sway bars/end links to get rid of the body roll that the new GR's suffer from and perhaps lower it with some decent coilovers. The pricey component here would be coilovers, and from what I have read so far is that the STi actually peforms worse when lowered, and really I would only need to adjust my suspension if I were to track it in an autocross (which I'll probably never do). So they can wait.

After watching Top Gear now, I am wondering what is better to upgrade first? Power or Handling? Richard Hammond would say Handling and Jeremy Clarkson would say POWER!

New Snowboard

Picked up a new Burton Custom V Rocker 154 cm for the upcoming snowboarding season to replace my 2006 Burton Clash. The V-rocker system is similar to the Banana tech that Lib tech offers, but just a different name. It's supposed to help out with powder as it keeps the nose/tail up a bit more. Took it out to Lake Louise this past weekend with my buddy and it proved to be quite awesome. Much lighter and responsive than my old Clash board. I'll either give my old Clash board to my brother or just use it as a rock board.

To add to this post: The 09/10 snowboarding season is starting off incredibly well. All the mountains around us have been receiving record snow falls and some have been open since early October! Sunshine had a 100+ cm base in mid November! These are definitely Base numbers I don't expect until January. When I was at Lake Louise last weekend the base was 90+cm, which was more then when I went last year at Christmas time! I hope this keeps up for the rest of the season!

For Halloween this year I was a....Stormtrooper! I haven't been out for Halloween these past few years due to exams but this time all my exams were done and I partied it up! We hit up the Students Club Crawl that started at Crazy Horse and went to Tangerine, HiFi and ended up at Tequilla (Booo!). It was a lot of fun! Probably one of the best nights I've had in a long time!

The Pros about the costume:

What an intense course Biol591. I have never worked so hard. It seems like a microscope should be attached to my face. Though it was a lot of hard work, the experience was definitely worth it and if anything the friendships that were created from it were great!

Kananaskis Field Course

I signed up for a summer course this year and thought that it would be cool to not be stuck in a class at the U of C campus. So I opted for a graduate class in the field regarding Entomology (The Study of insects). Though my major is not in this direction I still thought that it would be a great experience. The class started on the 6th of August out at the U of C Biogeoscience Station out by Barrier Lake (Formerly known as the Barrier Lake Field Station) and ends on the 15th.

Initially I really didn't think about the course load and just thought that it would be great experience having a class outside of Calgary that was hands-on learning and finished in 10 days, without a final test to boot! Well I was partially right in my expectations...except for the course load. Being outside is great, and having little day hikes to catch insects is cool too. But waking up at 7AM-> eating at 8AM->having a lecture at 9AM-> then going on a Day Hike until 3-4PM (for the past 2 days)-> having super at 5:30PM -> Another lecture at 7PM -> then from 8:30PM and onwards you are in the basement lab sorting/classifying/pinning insects for your collection (worth 45%) that you have caught (which is probably 12-1AM). On top of that you are either studying for a quiz or writing a paper (I have had a quiz and a paper due in the last 2 of 3 days). But in the end I suppose it is a cool experience, definitely not a "vacation" class though.

Today's hike was pretty cool though, we covered aquatic insects, so we went to a beaver damn, a creek, a lake and a few still ponds. My favourite catch today was a Dragonfly nymph (~1.5-2 inches) and a huge Dragonfly Adult. The only crap thing was being in the 29 degree weather, gross.

7 more days, 4 more days until my collection is due...ack!

Crazy Summer!

Wow have I ever been busy this summer. I didn't take spring classes this year and just focused on work. For May, June and July I worked as the Junior Athletic Therapist for the Calgary Junior Maverick's Rugby Club. They are the elite developmental Rugby team here in Calgary and only 1 of 2 teams in Alberta (Edmonton has the other team). It was a great opportunity since I got to work along side the Senior therapist and learned a lot of things from her. I really enjoyed learning how to assess and treat soft tissue injuries (hamstrings, IT bands, etc.) and learning athletic taping was great (especially from someone that was so experienced at it).

At first I didn't think I would be busy with this at all, but in the end it ended up consuming about 3-4 nights a week and at least every other weekend. Add this to my schedule of covering other Rugby teams as a back up AT and covering the Junior Rugby teams as an on field medic and it proved to be quite a demanding schedule for these past few months. However the Jr. Maverick's ended up losing the Western Finals vs. the Vancouver Wave mid July and my schedule since then has really eased up. Now I am just prepping for a Biology Field Class that I signed up for the Summer Semester (I'll talk about it a bit in my next post).

An interesting opportunity has come up recently. The U16 Alberta Rugby team is heading out to Ottawa in the middle of August (right after I'm done my field class) and needs an AT. So I put in my application for that and am awaiting for the response. I have worked for them once (just last week) and it seemed like they liked me. And hey, a free trip out to our Nations Capital can't be that bad.

Hockey season was over at the end of March and since then I haven't had a training job to do until the beginning of May. Now I'm covering Rugby. Apparently I did so well with hockey (and received good reviews) that I got the junior athletic therapist position with our local elite team! My first day with them was on Monday and I was super nervous, but pulled through. Tomorrow I'll be traveling to St. Albert to cover a Division 1 game (not with the elite) team. I didn't feel like traveling for this one, but oh well, it's a favor. Hopefully I don't come back too late, I have more rugby to cover early Sunday morning! I'm a busy man!

I wrote my EMR Provincial Registration Exam through Alberta College of Paramedics last month on Sept. the 7th and have been eagerly waiting for my mark ever since. The test I took was over a span of 2 days in Red Deer. The first day was the written exam which was a 100 MC question test and the second day was a practical test where I had to stand in front of 2 examiners and go through a medical/trauma scenario within a 10 minute time frame. After a grueling 2 hours of waiting I found out that I passed the practical but had to wait 4-6 weeks before I got my written exam marks back.

So I waited and waited and waited and nothing ever came in the mail. I was about to give up and then I checked the mail on Friday after I got home and to my delight there was an ACP letter sitting in the mailbox. I was so happy yet so fearful to open it. But when I did I was so happy because I read the following line: "Dear Mr. Le: Congratulations you have successfully completed the EMR Provincial Registration Exam." Woohoo!!! Now I just have to pay them more money to Register as an EMR and perhaps I will look into getting my EMT through SAIT afterwards...we'll see if I have the time to do it though...

Side note: The trip to Red Deer was a bit stressful trying to cram in as much knowledge as I could before I had to write the written part. But it was also fun because I dragged my brother with me and we had a fun time chillin' in Red Deer's Marriot hotel that Friday night. The waiting before and after the practical exam was a killer on the nerves but worth it in the end!

Yay! The final season of one of my favorite television series is being released on DVD on the 23rd of October! It's too sad that a good show like this got booted from the CW. In my opinion it is much better than the new shows on CW such as Reaper. Oh well we (I) will be seeing more of Kristen Bell on Heroes this upcoming Monday...so the Universe is somewhat balanced again :)

I'm so mad after hearing about this story. You can read it here. Summary: the Canadian government has decided to tax all legal music downloads. Also the tax is going to be retroactive from Jan. 1996!

Why am I so mad? Because I actually use services like iTunes to get my music. I know what you guys are thinking..."he pays for his music?" Yes I do. Why? It is cheaper, quicker and overall more convenient then downloading it illegally. Also the quality is better than most illegally downloaded music and access to the music is almost instantaneous. To find a good torrent of the same album illegally is actually a lot more time consuming.

So what does this mean after it is all implemented? The price will be a bit higher for music on iTunes and could push people back to illegal downloading of music again. It will also mean more money for an already shady government that doesn't know how to manage its money in the first place. Oh, and a pissed of online music provider such as iTunes because they are now being taxed on something they sold 10 f*cking years ago!

3:10 to Yuma

I haven't been to a movie in a while (Transformers!) and decided to catch one this past Friday with Tuyet. I Looked at the listings and nothing really caught my eyes besides 3:10 to Yuma, so we decided to go to that. And it's a good thing we did because this movie rocked! I would have to say that this has to be one of the best Western movies I have seen. The cast was amazing with Christian Bale, Russel Crowe, Ben Foster and Peter Fonda. Ben Foster as Charlie Prince was amazing. Foster sure has changed since his TV role on Flash Forward as Tucker James and he has built on his creepy bad guy character that he played in Hostage. I definitely recommend you see it if you haven't already!

-Finished my spring EMR class with flying colors at the end of June. Probably one of the most enjoyable experience of my academic life.
-Preparing to write my ACP test for EMR in September (So I can be a fully certified EMR in Alberta).
-Taking Abnormal Psych in the Summer Semester at the U.
-Start working as a lab assistant tomorrow at the U for credit and a reference letter!
-Went to a ton of Weddings in May and June.
-Going to Seattle this weekend with Tuyet to go and see Daft Punk in concert! I will also be catching a Mariner's game too! Go Ichiro!
-Playing Flag Football on the Venga Bus through the CSSC Recreational League.
-Playing Soccer on the Crazy 88's through the U of C Intramural League.

Weekend @ Fernie

Wow am I ever a ski bum this year! Since I've bought my board (early January) I have gone boarding 4 times and I am going again this weekend! The 4th time was in Fernie and I went there with Christian and Andrew. We decided to go there after I found a great deal online at Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. The deal was $99/person and it included a single day lift ticket and a one night stay at a hotel at the base of Fernie. Considering a lift ticket is around $70 this was a steal for lift ticket and one night accommodations.

We left Calgary at about 7PM and after a fun 2 1/2 hour drive we were at our lodgings at the Wolf's Den (or known to Chris and I as the Wold's Den). The room was your bare minimal. It had two double beds/bathroom and a mono tv. We had a great view...of the parking lot from our window since we were on the ground floor. The hallway wreaked of chlorine since the hot tub was only a few doors down from us. That night none of us had a good sleep due to uncomfortable mattresses and an alarm clock that always makes that noise when a cell phone receives a signal (I really don't know why we didn't pull that thing out of the wall!).

After what seemed like only a few hours of sleep (we were in bed for at least 7 hours) we showered, donned our boarding gear, checked out and headed for some expensive breakfast at the main lodge. For a bagel/egg/bacon/lettuce/tomato breakfast sandwich+bottle of orange juice it was $9.75!!! Good ol' rip off ski lodge pricing. But it was actually pretty good and filling ...I don't know if it was $9.75 good though. Then we met up with Chris' friend Brian and went boarding for the rest of the day!

Boarding at the top of the mountain was insanely fun. There was so much powder everywhere and the view was incredible. We did have difficulty navigating our way through the harder blue runs, but it was also a good learning experience. By the end of the day I was so tired and sore that I couldn't even make simple turns from heel to toe!

We called it quits by about 3PM, dropped Brian off and had some eats at A&W. After that we headed to Frank Slide. It was way too windy when we got out to explore the slide, so we just took a few quick pictures and drove off. It was a really amazing place as there were rocks as big as a house on the side of the road from the slide!

I got home at about 6PM (another 2 1/2 hour return trip) and basically passed out at the end of the night. What a great trip, I think I will definitely have to do this again next March (hopefully the special will be on again). Perhaps get a convoy of friends out there for a 2 day trip even. That would definitely rock the Kasbah.

Basically a member on beyond.ca posts a thread for his friend because his friend was rear ended by a Silver Acura RSX and the driver of the RSX drove off (hit & run). A few hours later another member posts pictures that he took of the guy in his RSX driving off from the scene of the accident! The thread starts to get Diggs and the news is spread all over the internet! Look at the traffic increase for Beyond.ca since the thread started by clicking here. And click here to see what Shelton did to prevent the beyond.ca server from crashing due to the "Digg effect".

I used to be interested in the Oscars when I was younger but as time went by I noticed all the politics that were behind it and it really turned me off. Things like Tom Cruise never being nominated for a best actor award yet his supporting actors/actresses were always nominated. Or Lord of the Rings not winning Best Film until the 3rd trilogy came out. So I never watched the Oscars last night but when I saw the cover of the Calgary Sun today I just had to chuckle.

I can't believe she won over Abigail Breslin (the little girl) in "Little Miss Sunshine". Even though I have never seen "Dream Girls" (and I never will) I am willing to bet my house that Jennifer Hudson's performance was not as good as Abigail's. BOOOO to the Academy! Snowboarding @ Sunshine

So I sucked it up today and went out snowboarding at Sunshine. I left my house at 6:30AM and arrived in the Sunshine parking lot at about 8:10AM (hehe, I was slightly speeding). I managed to get second row parking arriving at that time and was stoked that I was one of the first few at the hill. I quickly put on all my gear, bought my lift ticket and headed for the gondola. After putting my bag up in the lodge I headed for the Angel lifts. For some reason I was really nervous. I am guessing it was because I was nervous going up by myself. After riding the chair by myself all the way to the top I got off the chair and didn't fall... SUCCESS! I was 7/7 (for successfully unloading from the lift chair) for the day and quite proud of myself. I was also quite proud that I did so many runs in so little time. My first run didn't go so well, but they never do (for me). The runs were freshly groomed and I found it hard to find an edge, it was discouraging but after relaxing a bit I managed to get my first run down the hill unscathed. Anyways I had a lot of fun, but its just not the same without friends being with you. Next time I will definitely find some peeps to join me in my snowboarding escapades.

This dude here (in the orange jumpsuit) heard what "sounded" like a woman being raped in the upstairs apartment suite. He then takes it upon himself to go "save her". He grabs a cavalry sword and busts into the apartment to find just a lone guy in the apartment. Where's the girl being raped? There was none, the dude was just watching some porn (very loudly). Single Rider

So I woke up this morning at about 5:55AM. The plan was to leave by 6:30AM. However I had reservations about going up to Sunshine to go snowboarding by myself. I basically didn't want to Sunshine to snowboard all by my lonesome. I didn't go back to sleep but instead just caught up on a few shows that I have fell behind on. At about 9AM I was having regrets not going, and then even more so when I checked the Live Mountain Cams that they have at Sunshine Village (pretty neat, check it out). Anywho I am going to MAKE myself go tomorrow and put inhibitions aside so that I can quench my craving to go carve (my mediocre attempts) up some green runs on Sunshine. The forecast seems pretty good:

What really made me regret not going was seeing this picture on their mountain cam...absolutely awesome...
