Show Boating American

This is the video clip of Lindsey Jacobellis in the Gold medal round for boarder crossing. The jist of it is this: Lindsey Jacobellis was leading the race and on her way to the finish line she decides to do a bit of "show boating" and does a little trick on the very last jump/hill before the finish line. Her over confidence is her achilles heel and she falls down she feverishly gets up again but not before it is too late and loses first place to the girl that was trailing her and has to settle for second place and the silver medal. *cue nelson laugh*

My thoughts? She should have waited for the jump at the finish line to do her "cool move". But then again that wouldn't have been as funny as this :D

Sportsmanship.

The team we played tonight had none of the above. They acted like it was a game of college ball/nba callibre. They would talk trash to us even when leading by 20 points and more. They would push and shove us and when their 6'4" guy rejected our 5'3" guy they would whoop and holler like it was such an accomplishment. At the end of the game they mockingly gave us three cheers and a few of their players didn't even shake our hands.

Sorry to break it to you guys, but this is Intramural Men's B league. If you guys are so hot why aren't you in A league? Yeah I thought so. You sorry excuses for human beings.

We have the next week off and then 3 practices and 3 games remaining. I hope we can win all 3 and I believe we can win at least 1 of the three.

The best part of the night was when we shook their hands and Andrew proceeded to their bench to say "Nice game Spaz", to the spaz of their team. And he proved Andrew's point by spazzing out, hah, what a fluffer.

1st Practice

Yellow Fever had our first practice yesterday night and it worked out pretty well. We had 10 that showed up and actually had an extra (making it 11) that wasn't on the team. We ran a few drills, practiced personal skill and did some offense/defense plays and I think as a group we picked up quite a bit of knowledge from Tim and Mike M. (our basketball gurus) in an hour and a half session. We ended off the night with a 20 minute game of full-court action, and wow was it ever intense. When we finished we pretty much collapsed on the side lines. It was very nice seeing Andrew out there last night and I eagerly anticipating him being on the lineup this Wednesday night for our game.

Our game will not be an easy one as we are playing the first place team in our division. This team beat the first team that we played this season pretty badly. And if that first team we played beat us badly, then I really don't know what to expect tomorrow. Though I think as a team we have improved greatly from that first game.

For us to be succesful tomorrow:
-We have to play a tough defensive game and get all the rebounds both offensively and defensively.
-We have to put into play what we learned last night (offensively/defensively).
-And lastly I believe the key to winning will be decided with how patient we are when we have possession of the ball. This means no panic shots.

Oh the pain!!!!!!!!

Yesterdays game was a heart breaker. We started slow again, 11-2, then we picked it up and were only down by 7 at the end of the half. The second half was strong for us and we actually tied it up. The "kick in the nuts", the "stab in the back" happened with 10 seconds remaining in the game when the ball was passed out to the side where their guy made a 3 pointer making it 40-37. Everybody was devastated. I definitely wasn't impressed with it. Probably because I was thinking we really could win this one and the fact that I was the one he jacked the 3 on. Oh well we have a game next week to win. Plus we have our first practice next week and that should help us out. I can feel our win coming up next week. We can do it!

Things worth mentioning about the game:

-Leo had an amazing defensive game, playing top-notch defense and had (from what I remember) at least two steals.

-Our defensive game is improving and made the other team take more perimeter shots.

-I got my first basket!

-Our free throw shooting percentage was very good, with only 1 missed.

-Michal was 100% at the free throw line ;) (1 for 1, heh)

-Nich was finally able to come and play with us and definitely did a good job underneath both baskets.

-We only lost by 3 this time.

-We are definitely improving!

For all your hip lingo/slang questions, you can find all your answers at www.urbandictionary.com.

Hope that clarifies it a bit ;)

Yellow Fever

Well most of you know that I started up an Intramural basketball team at the University for this winter semester and I named it Yellow Fever after the tendencies of a few players on our team ;) The season has been on for three weeks now and we have played two games so far (since we had a week without a game). Our first game we lost by a lot, and it was pretty humiliating. I went in it hoping we wouldn't lose by more than 6 points, but we ended up losing 66-29 (or something like that). We lost because we had no offence and no defence. Every time we touched the ball we would toss it up (and miss, of course). We would stare at rebounds instead of going for them. The list goes on but I only have so much battery life on my laptop ;)

With a week off and then our second game on the third week we went into it with the horrible memories of our first game still fresh in our minds. We tried to erase those horrible memories by improving on all the parts that we lacked. This time we did a lot better. Our defense was better, our rebounding improved and our passing increased. However we still lacked any real offense, and most of our offence was due to fast breaks, so we'll have to work on that. We ended up losing by 7 points (46-39) which made me and the rest of the team a lot happier.

Our next game is this Wednesday evening and hopefully we can figure out some offense and improve on our defensive skills and pull out the W. I'm confident we can do it. We can definitely do it if we improve on things that we started at our last game.

Go Yellow Fever!!!!
