This is for all you Wii owners who have been curious about the workings of the Wii sensor bar and the Wiiremote. Oh Wii oh my...

So I've had the Nintendo Wii for 6 days now and I have found out that my specific unit is already defective. The good news is the defect doesn't affect the game play, but it does affect the Wii's online capabilities. I discovered this while trying to connect my Wii to my wireless network (very similar to connecting your DS to your wireless network). I would test the connection after I finished the setup and it would give me this error message

Error #110213

"There is a problem with the Wii Connect 24 service. Please try again later"

For the first few days I just kept on trying it but to no avail. So yesterday I decided to go to the Nintendo.com site to see if there was any tech support that could help me out. I found the Error Code Entry Page and entered my code and this is what came up:

Connnect 24 Errors 110210, 110211, 110212, 110213 Wii Connect 24 Errors If you are receiving the following error message: " There is a problem with the Wii Connect 24 service. Please try again later " ...we ask that you call as at (800) 255-3700

What the?

That didn't really help me. So I posted my predicament on beyond and a kind soul gave me this article:

November 20, 2006 - We have received word from numerous sources that running the initial WiiConnect 24 update on the Wii has had a tendency to cause a recurring error code. Several error codes have been reported so far, but the most prevalent of them are 110213 and 32002. We contacted Nintendo about this issue, and they filled us in on what you should do if you find yourself in this predicament.

Currently, Nintendo has two options in place to resolve the problem. If you do not have any data saved to your system that is important to keep, then you can contact Nintendo customer service and they will ship a new console to you in 3-4 business days. However, if you do have important data saved to your system, then things get a little trickier. Data like game saves and Miis are not disastrous to lose, but Virtual Console data is. While Virtual Console games are re-downloadable should you delete them, the data saved on your console regarding which games you have downloaded is tied to your system. In this situation, option #2 is the way to go.

Option #2 requires that Nintendo send you a shipping label which should take 4-10 business days. Once you receive the shipping label, you can use it to send the console to Nintendo for repairs, after which they will send it back to you. Sadly, this process takes 8-12 business days, meaning that if you choose option #2, you will be Wii-less for a good long while.

Nintendo could not comment on how widespread this problem is, but did say that they are currently looking into fixes that can be done without Nintendo replacing or repairing the console itself. If you find yourself receiving either of these error codes, or any others, please visit Nintendo's customer service website.

Boourns....

So after classes today I arrived home and the first thing I did was call up Nintendo. I was on hold for 5 minutes before I was able to talk to someone (not bad at all), and when I did I told them about the error code I was receiving. He told me that it was a bad system error and the only thing they could do was give me a new one and have me send in the defective one. He took about 15 minutes to set up an order account with all my vitals and now I should be getting a new Wii sometime next week! 2 Wii's in 2 weeks!

Now I know what you are all thinking..."Why return my Wii when I get the new one?" Well they took my credit card info down for collateral in case I were to do it. Plus they are only sending the console, so there are no cords, power adapter, controllers, sensor bar, etc. Pretty much it would be useless to me or to anyone else.

Anywho, I hope this was informative to those of you who have a new Wii and are getting error codes as well. Make sure you go check the code out at the page line I provided (somewhere in this post).

Oh yes Wii did!

Chris and I were so excited about the launch of the new Nintendo Wii that we mustered up enough self-dignity and humility to wait for it in the long lines early Sunday morning. How early did we show up for the line? We were at Futureshop at Deerfoot Meadows by 3AM today. Crazy? Yes. Worth it? Hell yes! But to put it into perspective, we weren't as crazy as the first four people had been there since 4PM Saturday!

This was the first time either of us have ever "camped out" for a console, but we came well prepared. I brought camping chairs for the both of us and both of us brought appropriate items to keep ourselves warm. I brought a sleeping bag, hoodie, two shirts, long johns, toque and gloves. Chris brought similar items. All this barely kept the cold night air out. I can't even imagine what it would have been like if Calgary wasn't experiencing chinook weather! However, compared to the people behind us, who laid on the cold concrete with just a sleeping bag, blankets and a tarp, we were super prepared. Both of us brought our DS' but it was just too cold to play them, however others in the lineup sacrificed warm fingers to play their DS/PSP. The night was long and involved chatting with the people in the lineup and brief little naps. Some people were extremely interesting to talk to and others were just plain too annoying or geeky. What made the night a little bit more warm (for a brief moment) was when this nice lady bought the 18 of us hot chocolate from Tim Horton's around 4AM! It was fantastic! Thanks Hot Chocolate lady!

The lineup for the Wii at Futureshop Deerfoot Meadows that night went something like this. The lineup was about 5 people from 4PM to Midnight. From Midnight to 3AM (when we came) it grew to 16 people (including us). Only 4 more people came from 3AM to 5AM. There were a few that came at those times, but were not prepared and left after 20 minutes. The line grew significantly after 7AM. And by the time we received our tickets at 8:30AM there were probably 80-100 people in line. Even though there were only 57 tickets given out (because there were only 57 units) some people (stupid people) still decided to wait. Perhaps they thought the employees were lying? Or perhaps they thought that someone at the front after waiting many hours in the cold would decide to give theirs up? Stupid.

They opened the doors up to only a few people at around 9AM. And I ended up getting out of the store around 9:20AM with a Wii console, Wiimote, nunchuk, Rayman and Zelda. Chris bought the same things minus Rayman.

When I got home I ate breakfast, took a shower and slept from 11-3PM. It wasn't much, but it sure felt nice. I didn't end up hooking up the unit until later that night and Tuyet, my bro and I gave Wii sports a try. It was so much fun, and a pretty good workout! I think we most enjoyed Wii boxing and baseball.

Overall if someone asked me "Would you do it again?". The answer would most likely be "No". It was quite an experience, but the loss of sleep and the cold weather really made for a miserable night. The only reason I was only willing to wait for the Wii in the cold was because Chris wanted to do it too. Otherwise I would have bought it a few months after release, just like I did with the 360.

Reading Days!

Reading days afforded me with a 4 day long weekend this past weekend and with that I used it to its full potential.

Thursday night I went to relieve some much pent up stress by having a "few" drinks at the Blind Monk and then finishing the night with some crazy ass dancing at Hi-Fi. Much props go out to Mike and Chris for taking me out that night *electronic high five*

Friday I stuffed myself full of Tylenol to get over the huge hangover and went to the Flames vs. Anaheim game and watched the Flames kick some tired Ducks ass. It was sweet. Even sweeter because it was the first Flames win that I have witnessed at the Dome. The other 2 games I have been to, they have lost (not including pre-season losses).

Saturday morning I cooked a big breakfast for Tuyet and my brother. I made Irish style eggs (I saw Martha Stewart make it on Conan O'Brien for St. Patty's day), bacon and hashbrowns..mmmm now I'm hungry. Afterwards I got to enjoy a movie with Tuyet. I have been wanting for so long to go to The Departed. The cast was stellar (Nicholson, Damon, DiCaprio, Wahlberg, M.Sheen and A.Baldwin) and the story line was fantastic and was basically a modern day Shakespeare tragedy. Makes me want to watch the original Japanese version now! If you haven't seen it, you definitely have to go now....NOW!!!

Then we ended off the night watching the Flames awesome comeback win against the Canucks. Go Flames Go!

Sunday involved me playing a few video games with the brother and watching a few bits and pieces of NFL Games. Then Tuyet and I went out to (I don't know the name) the all-you-can-eat Chinese place up in Deerfoot Mall. I forget what the occasion was, but Tuyet's family and relatives were there. The food was filling but not overly good...but hey it was free so there's no complaining coming from this full stomach :D After that we went to see ANOTHER movie! That's right I had to squeeze in as many movies as I could with this little break in the semester. This time we chose to go see The Prestige. It stars Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman and Michael Caine. It is directed by Chris Nolan (Batman Begins and Memento). It is about two magicians who are in competition with each other, each one trying to one-up the other in tricks. The movie was awesome. The twists were great and the acting was well done. I totally recommend it if you haven't seen it yet.

Monday...what did we do Monday? I think we went shopping. Specifically we were looking for boots for Tuyet. First we went to Market and then went to Chinook. She couldn't find anything though...booo.

Tuesday I just spent at home chilling and illin. Later on in the night Tuyet and I watch the Flames slaughter the Blues :D

But yeah, the long weekend was very nice. Too bad we don't have more of them per month :D

Greek Ribs

6 servings
1 hour 30 minutes (20 minutes prep)

- 3lbs pork back ribs
- 2 teaspoons finely grated fresh lemon rind
- 1/3 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup grated onions
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons liquid honey
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper

1. Cut pork into individual ribs, trimming off fat
2. In small bowl, whisk together lemond rind and juice, onion, oregano, oil, honey, garlic powder, salt and pepper; pour int large ziplock bag.
3. Add pork back ribs, turning to coat; seal bag tightly
4. Refrigerate, turning bag occasionally, for at least 8 hours or for up to 24 hours.
5. Arrange ribs on rack in large foil-lined roasting pan; pour marinade all over ribs.
6. Roast in 400F oven for 10 mins.
7. Reduce oven temp to 375F; roast, turning once and basting occasionally with marinade, for 1 hour or until meat is tender enough to almost fall off the bone.


My personal tips:
-Instead roasting for 1 hour at 375F, do it for a bit longer...half an hour more and for the last 4 minutes turn it on broil and broil both sides so they can turn a golden brown.
- Serve with extra slices of lemon so guests can add more to the ribs if they wish
- You can also serve this with some tzatziki sauce for dipping (its fantastic!). I bought mine pre-made at the supermarket. You can also be dilligent and make it yourself, I chose to be lazy.

Enzo Time!

With the past few days being pretty nice outside, I have been able to take the new R/C Enzo for little rips on the street in front of the house. The thing is pretty fast like it claims and can easily do 60 km/h with fully charged batteries. But that doesn't last long at all. After 20-25 minutes of constant driving the battery doesn't push out enough juice for the Enzo to tear up some major asphalt. Then it dies completely after 35-40 minutes of continuous driving. Which really sucks as I have to charge the battery for 5 hours to get only 40 minutes of drive time. I guess I will remedy this by going to the hobby shop and picking up 1-2 more batteries so I can have it running a bit longer.

Today I took a few pictures of the actual car so you guys can have a look at it. The previous owner didn't use the Enzo body and Enzo wheels because he was too afraid to wreck it, so he bought a different plain body/wheels and used those to "beat up" on. However I love the look of the Enzo body so I decided to use that instead (plus with it being out on the road there are no major threats of me running into anything like walls) but I left the non-Enzo wheels on. It looks sweet tearing up and down the street with the Enzo body on. I hope the weather stays good for a the remainder of the week so I can get in some more time with it before the snow falls. Perhaps even get some drifting tires on it and learn how to drift with it hehe. Anyways check out the pictures of my Ferrari :D

Lego Fun!

This past Thursday I was at Toys R Us looking for a birthday present for my brother when I came upon some Lego Star Wars sets. The looked fantastic plus they were on sale to boot so I grabbed a X-Wing and a B-Wing kit and headed to the cashier. Now I know I was there looking for a present for my brother, but you know how it works... you never find something for the person you are looking for, you always find something for yourself! I probably wouldn't have bought them if I was so hooked on the Lego Star Wars II: Original Trilogy Xbox 360 game (Dang is it ever fun!). Anywho I built the X-Wing with Tuyet on Sunday night and then I finished up the B-Wing on Monday. Check out the pictures! I think I might have to keep an eye open for some more discounted Lego kits since these were so much fun to build :D Oh and my brother's birthday is in 2 days and I still don't know what to get him! Ack!

Losing

Losing absolutely sucks and that's what we did on Sunday. We actually played a pretty good game and were tied for most of the game. The went up on us by 6 at the end and we stopped them from converting. Then it was our turn for our last drive to tie it up. We made it a bit past half field but then threw up an INT and with that our hopes of beating the best team in our division.

Thinking about the season sorta irks me as we would have won a few games had the officiating been less 1 sided. I know it sounds like a cliche to blame the refs for a lost game but if you EVER play in this league at the U of C you will come to see what I am talking about. The Refs want to be "cool" and it feels like high school where the kid is trying to impress the "cooler kids" and that's how our refs act in games. Lame.

Oh well now that Football is done I am free for another sport. I am hoping some ice hockey and basketball to fill up the very little free time that I already have :D

It was a good season OCELOTS and we did play well. Thanks to all of you who played on my team. I appreciated your effort and hope to play football with you again soon!

P.S. I can't wait for Flag Football with the CSSC in the Spring/Summer!

This is going to be us today!

Today is the last regular season game for the OCELOTS and we are playing an undefeated team in our division. Their record is 4-0-1 ours is 2-3-0. If we beat them and there are other acts of God that go our way in other games we will make the playoffs (so basically the chances are slim). However our will to deliver the Glory Hawks their first loss of the regular season is great. We are going to go out there and score touchdowns after touchdowns, while stopping every single one of their drives. I know we can do it!

What the crap?!

So I went out to lunch with Kent today at Earl's and he was going to be a bit late so before I went into the lounge I decided to stop by the Toys R Us to look at possible birthday gifts for my brother. As soon as I entered the front doors I was greeted to a Star Wars display. There was some pretty cool Lego Star Wars on a shelf but then I saw it...It made my jaw drop, not because it was cool, but because I couldn't believe they would make such a stupid toy! What was it? It was this, the Star Wars Deluxe Millenium Falcon Transformer. What an odd "team up" of toy brands? Why in the would would I want Han Solo and Chewbacca to transfrom into the Millenium Falcon? And why are they robots now? I mean if there Ship was a transformer, wouldn't they be able to kick some true Imperial ass? And why oh why are there smaller figures of Han and Chewbacca? Do they ride themselves? Truly odd and truly crappy.

Tetanus Shot...

Remember how I cut my finger on my car really bad 2 mondays ago? Well since I cut it against a piece of metal (and it was deep) I had to get a Tetanus Booster shot to prevent any possible infection. Also I had to get the booster shot because apparently they only last 10 years and the last time I received one was most likely when I was 14, so I was due for my booster. The people at the medical clinic were supposed to give me a shot on the day they patched up my hand, but they had none in stock and told me to come back in 5 days. But I have been so busy with school that I haven't been able to drop by and get one. So I decided that I'd go to the Health Services Center at the University and so I did. I booked an appointment and got my booster shot right after lunch today. Now my left upper arm feels nice and sore (like someone punched me hard in the arm). Hopefully it will be fine by the time flag football rolls around this Sunday (Go Ocelots!)

Ferrari Enzo

I am a proud new owner of the quite rare Ferrari Enzo...a 1/10th scale Tamiya RC Ferrari Enzo that is :D Picked one up used from a beyond.ca member last night. He has had it for only a month but had to part with it due to financial difficulties. So I took it off his hands for quite the steal! Anyways I'm going to try and get a few runs on the street in front of my house before the snow comes down and covers everything. Get this, it hits 60km/h...Crazy!!! This is what mine looks like.

The EVO2 Dual exhaust with cat back is definitely my next mod for my car. It's my attempt to get some more grrr from my NA machine :D Maybe it will be on by this upcoming summer? This and some stainless steel headers would just be.......drool :P

60-80 cars?!!! Wow it must be really slippery out there. I'll probably have to leave for school extra early tomorrow morning. I hope I don't get to my midterm late...that would suck!

Snow!

It hasn't snowed yet but soon it will. The forecast calls for snow tomorrow so I decided to take an hour out of my busy schedule today to put my winters on the car today and remove the 18's with summer slicks off. I didn't want to be caught in the snow with them on as I would most likely curb them on the first day of snow when I'm sliding all over the roads. It was a lot more work then I expected but I got the task done with a bit of help from Tuyet and the bro (help is always awesome). They are now in storage and I am set for the winter! Good news is that they are on now, even better news is that I didn't lose any fingers in the process :D

Sony Ericsson K800i

This is what I ended up getting Tuyet for her birthday. I even bought her a screen protector heh. It's quite an awesome phone and I thought it was going to be "one of a kind" for awhile, but apparently Rogers is bringing it to it's line up (well a similar one the k790) in November...boourns. Oh well it will still be a rare k800i in North America. Specs are available from here. I chose the Sony Ericsson brand because after buying my w810i and just absolutely loving it. The w810i has a 2.0mp camera, expandable memory slot and a mp3 player! I loved it because it was 3 devices in one and meant I could carry less in my pockets. I've been using it for 3-4 months now and have no complaints so I thought I couldn't go wrong with the k800 which is an even fancier version of the w810i. Hopefully I am not wrong :D I hope you enjoy it!

Busy Busy Busy

Midterms, assignments, quizzes...I am going crazy. This sememster has really been taking a toll on me. Only 1 1/2 months left, I just have to get over the midterm hump of this month and then it's smooth sailing from there onto finals. I can do it!

Yeah this was a weaksauce attempt at getting any kind of inspiration/motivation to get through this midterm season...

At least I tried :D

Friday, October 13th

Exactly 10 years ago from this day I crashed my first car (badly). I bent the control arm, bashed in the front of my bumper, popped my 2 front tires and had my life flash before my eyes. I won't get into the details but all I have to say is....poor stop sign, it never did anything to me but try to save my life from oncoming traffic. And on that fateful night I plowed into it. I remember the horror I felt that night and I will NEVER EVER be that reckless again...EVER, and so far in the past 10 years I have lived up to my word.

Anyways thinking back makes me think of all the good times my first car gave me and all the hardships it put on me just from breaking down all the time! It was a 1992 Hyundai Scoupe, click here for specs. 81hp! haha. I owned the car for 2 years (96-98) and it was such a beater (partly from the way I treated it), but for a car of only 4 years old it acted like it was 10+ years (just from all the breaking down of parts). It was laid to rest in the early Winter of 98 when an idiot rear ended me hard on the way to school and it became a right off.

Mine was exactly the same as this one, well mine was black, but besides that it looked exactly like this. Heh now seeing this I sorta want to buy one as a winter beater. I'm sure I could find one for $500 and maybe this time around I'll have a bit better luck with it (since I will definitely treat it 100x better than I did with the previous one).

What a weekend...

While you were all stuffing your faces with Turkey I was sleeping and resting. I ended up catching a slight stomach flu Thursday night and basically slept all Friday (cuz I was so tired from puking) and rested all Saturday. Which also meant I missed out on celebrating Tuyet's Birthday...Happy Birthday Tuyet! I did give her a present though but it's just not the same when you don't go out and celebrate it as well. We will postpone celebrations for the weekend of the 21st. So prepare yourself for some fun hunny!

To top it off, I cut myself badly when I was installing my new Dryflow AEM filter earlier today. I cut myself on top of my left thumb and I could see the bone when I pulled the cut apart. At first it didn't hurt but then the adrenaline started to wear off and I really though I was going to faint. But a bit of fresh air and sitting down helped prevent that. Anyways my Dad and Tuyet took me to the medi-clinic so I could get stitches, but instead of the convential thread and needle they glued me together (literally) using "glustitch", it's rather neat.


So since I cut myself on metal (and it was a deep wound) I will have to go get a Tetanus shot now at the end of the week or next Monday to prevent infection. Booo! I'll have to look into getting mechanics gloves now just to be on the safe side.

Anyways I hope everyone had a good Turkey Day and stuffed themselves a bit extra for me!

Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy

As much homework as I may have, I still somehow find time for a bit of video gaming. Anyways I bought Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for the Xbox 360 last night and played a bit of it today with my bro and we were both impressed. The game play is great with a 2 player co-op option and the game follows the Star Wars episodes IV, V and VI. Why did I buy this game? Well I bought EA's NHL 07 just last week and after trying it a few times with Kent, we both came to a conclusion that the game sucks just like it does every other year and the suck factor increased even more with the "new controls". So pick up Lego Star Wars II and forget about EA's NHL 07.

October Already?

Dang did September ever go by fast! Hopefully October doesn't go by as quickly (and I hope its not too cold), Perhaps she can ensure the latter :D

Mariah She's on Fire!

Last night I took the girl friend to the Mariah Carey concert and it was awesome! Busta Rhymes opened up for her, so that he could promote his new cd "The Big Bang" and he was fantastic, even though the crowd wasn't very receptive to him. Then Mariah came on and her showwomanship was spectacular...and that voice is incredible. I got goosebumps when she hit her high notes in Dreamlover and got them again when she hit her high notes on other songs that she peformed last night. She didn't perform all of her songs but she did do the crowd favourites. All in all it was a fantastic night. What topped it off (of course) was being able to enjoy it with Tuyet, but the "cherry on top" was all the "hoochies" that attended. I haven't even seen that many fake boobies since I was in Vegas!

Crikey!

As most of you know by now, Steve Irwin at the age of 44 died on Monday after being stung in the chest by a sting ray while he was doing a documentary on them. Apparently his death was caught on camera, store here. I will miss him, his personality was very entertaining. I send my condolences to his wife and 2 kids he left behind. Rest in Peace Steve Irwin.

Football Fever

After signing us up for football on Tuesday I started to feel the Football Fever. So I went to Futureshop and picked up a copy of EA Sports Madden NFL 07 for the 360. So far I'm playing a franchise with the Seattle Seahawks (I think they are due this year) and I'm 2-1 in the pre-season on Pro difficulty setting (not bad at all, I usually set it on Easy). The game play is the best I have ever experienced for a football game and that definitely is a good thing ;) But this hasn't quenched by football thirst yet and I think I will do a football pool with the guys. I'll start thinking of something and set it up before the first game next week.

Another year goes by and we are looking upon another season of Intramural Flag Football at the University. We have played in the league for the past 2 seasons. The first year we made it to the first round of the playoffs but lost, the second year we didn't even make it to the playoffs since we pulled off a dismal 2-4 regular season. This year will be different, or so I hope! We are not going to be called the Crazy 88's/Yellow Fever this year, instead we have opted for the name Ocelots. Ocelots?! Well it is a clever Acronym developed by Todd M. It stands for:

Old
Can't run
Everything hurts
Lungs on Fire
Out of shape
Too tired to keep up
Slow

I know it seems a bit negative, but at the same time we are just poking fun at ourselves. However most of us will not experience this (hopefully) and I hope this will be one of our most successful seasons. I'm excited!

I wish it was that big, heh. Actually I ordered a 20" Apple Cinema Display last week using my students discount on the online Apple Store and it just came in today. My work space is ultimately geeky now! And yes I know...I'm a Mac whore. But once you go Mac, you never go PC ;)

A Public Affair

Mmmm Hmmm...now THAT'S what I'm talking about Miss Jessica :D

Cornbread Muffins

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ready in: 25 minutes
Yields: 12 servings






Ingredients:
1 3/4 cups cornmeal
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup white sugar
2 cups buttermilk
2 eggs
1/4 cup vegetable oil

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Lightly grease or line 12 muffin cups.
2. In a large bowl mix together cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and surgar.
3. In a seperate bowl, combine buttermilk, eggs and vegetable oil; beat well.
4. Pour buttermilk mixture into flour mixture; stir until blended. Pour batter into prepared muffin cups.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.

Notes:
-First time I tried this recipe, it seemed like I used too much cornmeal, perhaps use less this time around
-Goes great with the Fried Chicken recipe
-Follow the ENTIRE recipe and INCLUDE the sourcream

Return of the Drive-In in YYC

I've missed having the drive-in up on 17th Ave S.E. They have been closed ever since the Hub Oil explosion in 1999. I used to go there all the time in the summers between grade 11 and the summer after grade 12. It was a great place to hang out with friends on a nice summers night while enjoying back to back movies. Now perhaps we are seeing a comeback of the drive-in? Race City Speedway is holding a drive-in night every Friday starting August 18th (today). Anyways here are the details.
