Show Boating American

This is the video clip of Lindsey Jacobellis in the Gold medal round for boarder crossing. The jist of it is this: Lindsey Jacobellis was leading the race and on her way to the finish line she decides to do a bit of "show boating" and does a little trick on the very last jump/hill before the finish line. Her over confidence is her achilles heel and she falls down she feverishly gets up again but not before it is too late and loses first place to the girl that was trailing her and has to settle for second place and the silver medal. *cue nelson laugh*

My thoughts? She should have waited for the jump at the finish line to do her "cool move". But then again that wouldn't have been as funny as this :D

Sportsmanship.

The team we played tonight had none of the above. They acted like it was a game of college ball/nba callibre. They would talk trash to us even when leading by 20 points and more. They would push and shove us and when their 6'4" guy rejected our 5'3" guy they would whoop and holler like it was such an accomplishment. At the end of the game they mockingly gave us three cheers and a few of their players didn't even shake our hands.

Sorry to break it to you guys, but this is Intramural Men's B league. If you guys are so hot why aren't you in A league? Yeah I thought so. You sorry excuses for human beings.

We have the next week off and then 3 practices and 3 games remaining. I hope we can win all 3 and I believe we can win at least 1 of the three.

The best part of the night was when we shook their hands and Andrew proceeded to their bench to say "Nice game Spaz", to the spaz of their team. And he proved Andrew's point by spazzing out, hah, what a fluffer.

1st Practice

Yellow Fever had our first practice yesterday night and it worked out pretty well. We had 10 that showed up and actually had an extra (making it 11) that wasn't on the team. We ran a few drills, practiced personal skill and did some offense/defense plays and I think as a group we picked up quite a bit of knowledge from Tim and Mike M. (our basketball gurus) in an hour and a half session. We ended off the night with a 20 minute game of full-court action, and wow was it ever intense. When we finished we pretty much collapsed on the side lines. It was very nice seeing Andrew out there last night and I eagerly anticipating him being on the lineup this Wednesday night for our game.

Our game will not be an easy one as we are playing the first place team in our division. This team beat the first team that we played this season pretty badly. And if that first team we played beat us badly, then I really don't know what to expect tomorrow. Though I think as a team we have improved greatly from that first game.

For us to be succesful tomorrow:
-We have to play a tough defensive game and get all the rebounds both offensively and defensively.
-We have to put into play what we learned last night (offensively/defensively).
-And lastly I believe the key to winning will be decided with how patient we are when we have possession of the ball. This means no panic shots.

The Ravinator

I was shown this last night and I just absolutely think its awesome. Enjoy!

Oh the pain!!!!!!!!

Yesterdays game was a heart breaker. We started slow again, 11-2, then we picked it up and were only down by 7 at the end of the half. The second half was strong for us and we actually tied it up. The "kick in the nuts", the "stab in the back" happened with 10 seconds remaining in the game when the ball was passed out to the side where their guy made a 3 pointer making it 40-37. Everybody was devastated. I definitely wasn't impressed with it. Probably because I was thinking we really could win this one and the fact that I was the one he jacked the 3 on. Oh well we have a game next week to win. Plus we have our first practice next week and that should help us out. I can feel our win coming up next week. We can do it!

Things worth mentioning about the game:

-Leo had an amazing defensive game, playing top-notch defense and had (from what I remember) at least two steals.

-Our defensive game is improving and made the other team take more perimeter shots.

-I got my first basket!

-Our free throw shooting percentage was very good, with only 1 missed.

-Michal was 100% at the free throw line ;) (1 for 1, heh)

-Nich was finally able to come and play with us and definitely did a good job underneath both baskets.

-We only lost by 3 this time.

-We are definitely improving!

Yellow Fever???

Now I guess I wasn't too clear on my last blog about the term "Yellow Fever". No it is not something you get from mosquito bites. To find out about it more Click Here It's the third definition :D

For all your hip lingo/slang questions, you can find all your answers at www.urbandictionary.com.

Hope that clarifies it a bit ;)

Yellow Fever

Well most of you know that I started up an Intramural basketball team at the University for this winter semester and I named it Yellow Fever after the tendencies of a few players on our team ;) The season has been on for three weeks now and we have played two games so far (since we had a week without a game). Our first game we lost by a lot, and it was pretty humiliating. I went in it hoping we wouldn't lose by more than 6 points, but we ended up losing 66-29 (or something like that). We lost because we had no offence and no defence. Every time we touched the ball we would toss it up (and miss, of course). We would stare at rebounds instead of going for them. The list goes on but I only have so much battery life on my laptop ;)

With a week off and then our second game on the third week we went into it with the horrible memories of our first game still fresh in our minds. We tried to erase those horrible memories by improving on all the parts that we lacked. This time we did a lot better. Our defense was better, our rebounding improved and our passing increased. However we still lacked any real offense, and most of our offence was due to fast breaks, so we'll have to work on that. We ended up losing by 7 points (46-39) which made me and the rest of the team a lot happier.

Our next game is this Wednesday evening and hopefully we can figure out some offense and improve on our defensive skills and pull out the W. I'm confident we can do it. We can definitely do it if we improve on things that we started at our last game.

Go Yellow Fever!!!!

As my title clearly indicates this post will lighten up the mood of my blog. Here are some quotes and songs from the movie Team America: World Police.

Seems rike no one takes me serirousry
And so, I'm ronery

Song:I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark, When he made Pearl Harbor.
I miss you more than that movie missed the point, And that's an awful lot, girl.
And now, now you've gone away, And all I'm trying to say, is: Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you.
I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school, He was terrible in that film.
I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part, He's way better than Ben Affleck.
And now, all I can think about is your smile, and that shitty movie, too! Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you.
Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked, just a little bit more than I miss you.

Sean Penn: Last year I went to Iraq. Before Team America showed up, it was a happy place. They had flowery meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate, where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles.

Terrorist: You have balls. I like balls.

Lisa: Promise me you'll never die.
Gary Johnston: You know I can't promise that.
Lisa: If you did that, I would make love to you right now.

Vote this Monday.

The above title is not indicating when the Canadian Federal election is but rather a statement of what you and I should do. Why did I bold "should"? Because I believe that a person should vote when granted the opportunity do so.

Now I know everyone has their reasons to not vote, and they range from "my vote doesn't make a difference" to "there is no one I'd like vote for". Personally I think these excuses are lame. One reason it's a lame because we are granted the opportunity to participate in the democratic process that not everyone in the world is afforded to have. Even in our present day there are still people dying to vote (E.g. refer to Iraq) and yet they still stand in lines waiting to cast their ballot when they know that at any given time some maniac could come running towards them strapped with a huge bomb. Yet they still wait. (please spare me from the anti-bush/anti-american comments concerning Iraq). Yes the electoral system is far from perfect but that shouldn't deter us from being a part of the democratic process. And for those who say that there is no one that they want to vote for. I call Bull Shit on you, and dare say that you don't even know each parties platform (Conservative, Liberal, NDP & Green). I purposely left out the Bloc Quebecois, because it shouldn't be an issue unless you live in Quebec *shudder*. Sure they lie but that's the name of the game. So quit whining and get out there and decide Canada's future.

I'll stop here to refrain from using the same cliches to try and promote voting but please take your time this weekend to go over the candidates and see what they and their party stand for and make your voice count on Monday.

Viruses in Pictures!!!

Apparently people using any windows operating system can be infected with a virus by simply looking at a picture on a web browser, email or instant message. Take a look at this article and protect your computer! In the article there's a link provided for the patch. So if you're computer hasn't updated and installed this patch already, then you should get on it!

Back to the Grind.

It's officially the half-way mark of the first week of school. So far I've been scrambling to get the classes I want and need. And so far it has been succesful. All my classes seem pretty interesting so hopefully I don't get bored of them by the time midterms roll around.

Having the PowerBook for this semester rocks! It's the 12 inch G4 and is so light and compact that it doesn't feel like I'm carrying a few bricks in my bag. My last laptop, a Dell inspiron, was close to 10lbs and was harsh on the shoulders when carrying it in my bag. The Dell's battery lasted a meezly 2 1/2 hours where as I can get close to 4 hours on the PowerBook. This was also my first time using a Mac and so it was completely foreign to me. I was at a lost and felt like it was the first time I encountered a computer! But it took a few days for me to get the hang of it and I have to honestly say that I prefer it over a PC any day! I should have waited for the new PowerBook Pro's with the intel chips though. Oh well that can be a christmas present a few years down the road ;)

Hate.

I found this on a local forum I frequent. They are music lyrics from a rapper named Kyprios. The song title is Hate and it is on the album "Say Something". The lryics are very blunt but I thought the message at the end was very good. Read entirely before you judge.

Do you know what I am? I am a nigger. That's right. The tip of my ebony pole rests between my knees so they don't knock together when I sleep on my side at night. I'm well hung like a grand wizard hanging from a telephone pole in the ghetto, because you know there's know trees in the ghetto. Know what I'm sayin? They say these fat, robust lips can barely articulate the miniscule thoughts in my tiny brain, but I can rap my fuckin ass off. Know what I'm sayin?

And I am a nigger. Do you know what I hate? I hate Whitey. Liberalistic, masochistic, conservative, preservative, republican, so love my skin. Fuck the democratics who give me my automatics, and the aristocratic autonomy who see the melanin in me as a felony. 1-3yrs for thievery, nigger they're calling me. But what the fuck did you get when you stole the whole native colony? Oh, you were the lawyers and the judges; you read the Tom Saywers and the Huck Finns. Hate me, segregate me, threaten to kick me out of the country, but who stole me the fuck in? Fuck skin. I don't see any black on your green. To me, it's white dollars. Ten to life = 6 months to three years if you got those white collars. America: Land of the jailed, home of the slave. I hate Whitey.

Do you know what I am? I'm a whitey. Do you know what I hate? I hate those Chinks. They can only have one child in their country so they come to my country and have fifteen kids , so they can take over and it'll be their country. It used to be China town, and now it's Chinky city, and I'm afraid the new second language is going to be calculus. Dicks as big as grains of rice, tooth floss to blind them, deep fried cat is the specialty every night. It's chinks, nips, gooks, spooks, yellow skinned bastards, I fucking hate chopsticks!

Do you know what I am? I am a chink. Do you know what I hate? I hate those Paki's. Red dot on my head, do you want a somosa? Do you really think that the smell of body odour and curry in your cab is a pleasing offering to Alah? Oh no, two all beef patties, special sauce, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun for you? Oh ya, I forgot that cows are gods and you can't eat them.

Do you know what I am? I am a paki. Do you know what I hate? I hate those Jews. They don't believe in Jesus, but instead an eight day miracle of oil and get an eight day Christmas. Happy Chanukah! I hope the next time you shout mozzletov that it's a molotov cocktail and you say hi to Hitler in hell.

Do you know what I am? I am a Jew. Do you know what I hate? I hate those Spics. Chinga tu madre pendeho. This is for la Razzah and all the ones who could run, jump, swim, or successfully border cross to my country.

But do you know what I'm not? I am not a spic, I am not a Jew, I am not a paki, chink, whitey, or a nigger. I'm Racism, and I don't discriminate. I hate you all equally. I hate Hatred for hating me, because I am hate manifest. You french kissed me and I left those words on your tongue. And I spread easy, so pass the hate.

Do you know what I am? I am Hate. I put the scars on your back, I put you in the oven, I dropped the bomb on your country, and I put those words on your tongue. You wanna stop me? You're too fucking stupid to stop me. I'll even tell you how to stop me, and I'll bet you can't......

Well what are you waiting for? Gimme some love.

Back!

It seemed like a long time but I was only in SoCal for 10 days. The trip was shorter and felt shorter than normal. Usually I'm down there for at least 2 weeks, but this time I was only there for a bit over a week. Still the trip was fun and full of free stuff! I came back with a considerable amount of "loot" and am quite happy with that fact. This trip was different though because Tuyet didn't come with us to visit my Mom, and that was definitely a part of the trip that was missed. My Mom kept on saying how it was not the same without Tuyet and that she missed having her along with us during our trip. That's probably why my Mom gave Tuyet so much Christmas "loot" as well (enough to entirely fill one medium size suitcase, and plus some!).

The trip was pretty much the usual routine that I go through when I visit during Christmas/New Years. First we stay in the O.C. for a few days, then we head up to San Jose to visit my Grandma and other relatives for up to a day before New Year's Eve. Then we head back to the O.C. and sleep the night and then head to Las Vegas the next day just in time for the New Year's Eve celebration. We then spend the night there and head back to the O.C. where we just go to the usual restaurants that we enjoy and malls that we frequent. The restaurants we really like are Seafood Cove in Westminster, Noodle World in Alhambra, Norm's in Anaheim, Banh Mi Lee's in Garden Grove and of course when you are down there you have to eat at In and Out Burger or the trip to SoCal feels empty.

I didn't take that many pictures this time around but I did have a brand new dvd camcorder to play around with! I ended up taping most of my New Year's eve experience in Las Vegas. It's family friendlly viewing so you won't see boobies being flashed or anything of the sorts (I know, so boring! hehe). However the highlite of the video is the 10+ minutes of fireworks show that I taped on the main strip. It's incredible! Hopefully I can transfer it to the comp and put it up on here for all of you to see.

Anyways I got back into the YYC on the night of the 4th. Customs was slack and didn't give me any hassle. I claimed about $600 in gifts (dvds, clothes, shoes, games). That sounds about right ;) Tuyet picked me up and forgot where the car was!!!!! Heh, women!

It's nice to be back. I'm not much for the dreary, cold unpredictable Calgary weather but its home. I do miss the O.C. too, but not as much.

School starts in a few days, boo. I am definitely not looking forward to this semester. I'm pretty sick of school, but I'll hang in there.

That's it for now,

Alex.
